Synopsis :

Original : After World War 3 the UK has been split into two warring factions, the Antarcticans and the Genoshans. The Genoshans want to rule the world. The Antarcticans just want to live in it. After the Antarcticans headquarters gets destroyed by the Genoshans, two men hatch a plan to save the survivors. They decide to move the survivors to Scotland where it will be safe. Only one problem, the Genoshans control a barrier that stretches right across the middle of the country. Our two heroes decide to travel ahead to destroy the barrier and allow safe passage.

Director's Cut : The synopsis has changed slightly due to some clever editing and some additional bits. I removed the reference 'Antarctican', and just had the characters referred to as survivors. I also removed references to the moving of survivors to Scotland, and just turned the film into a simple revenge story having the 2 heros decide to just confront the Genoshans in a sort of 'eye for an eye' sake.

Notes :

This film was shot under the title of 'Hell on Earth', but due to a mainstream Hollywood film being released around the same time with a similar name we decided to change it. Filming began in November 1991 and finished in October 1992, which constituted the longest running shoot in Fraught Productions history. This is also the first film to be totally royalty free. The score was written by friend and game programmer Jolyon Myers, and the songs were performed by local bands. We received many criticisms for using fireworks to represent gun fire, and bangers to simulate body explosions. When writing an article about the film for a magazine, i was asked to change the facts to prevent other people following our example and maybe getting hurt. We did extensive tests on the fireworks, and although there were a few near misses... no-one was hurt!
In 1993, the film won a Bronze Seal Award at the IAC's London International Film & Video Festival, along with the 'Best Youth Action Movie of the Year' award. This was the first year that this award was given out.
There are a few scenes deleted from this film, one major sequence starred Rebecca Rawlings as Siobhan. I can't remember why we didn't shoot more than the one scene, as i thought she was great. She was eventually replaced by Nuriye Arslantas.

December 2005 : A Directors Cut of the film has been completed, triming down the film into a svelt 32 mins rather than the bloated 51 mins film. I've also redone the majority of the Special Effects adding in Laser beams and Weapon Discharge. As well as a whole new opening story sequence and titles, i've re done all the Sound Effects and made the film much much tighter and more coherent. I've restored a few bits of footage that i had almost forgotten about, as well as trim some stuff that didn't really add anything to the story. We held a film premiere in Basingstoke, bringing together some of the original cast and crew. It was great fun!
